A Guide for International Students at AIBTGlobal
Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart are all beautiful Australian cities, each with their own unique charm and appeal. Living and studying in a new city can present challenges but will also be a very rewarding and exciting experience that will stay with you forever.
When studying with AIBTGlobal, we can offer support and help you get started when you first arrive. If you would like some helpful information for living and studying in Australia, just keep reading!
There are a variety of options available to you for living and studying in Australia. Some common options include renting your own apartment, homestay, and managed accommodation. If you are under 18, we can support you and help facilitate adequate homestay and general welfare arrangements.
When choosing your accommodation, consider how close it is to where you will be studying, as well as what is nearby, transportation, security, and utilities. Living closer to your campus will save you money and time and will also mean a higher likelihood of making friends with fellow students. Our Hobart Campus is in the Hobart City Centre, a short five-minute walk to Elizabeth Street Mall, whereas our Brisbane Campus is a 15-minute drive to the Brisbane CBD, or 35 minutes by bus. Some of our Sydney Campuses and facilities are within a short distance to Sydney’s CBD, with various other facilities easily accessible by public transportation.
Before you start your classes, make sure you attend orientation. Not only is this compulsory for all new AIBTGlobal students, you will also receive a welcome pack containing important information about your campus and student support services, and your student ID card. Be sure to bring along your passport, Visa and CoE.
As an overseas student you must study full-time, so it can be useful to plan each day and develop a study routine around your classes and other commitments. Use AIBTGlobal resources such as our Discover Library to help you out when studying.
If you would like to earn some money while studying, you can work 20 hours/week (40 hours/fortnight) during the semester, and unlimited hours during holiday periods. Before you work you will need to obtain a Tax File Number (TFN), which will make sure you get taxed appropriately for the work you do. If you would like to work full-time during the holidays you must also obtain an AIBTGlobal Holiday Letter to provide to your employer.
If you want to gain extra experience, a great way to do this can be through internships and work experience, which may lead to employment once you graduate. Volunteering will also provide you with valuable experience, improve your ability to communicate, and help you make new friends.
Coming to live in Australia on your own and studying in an unfamiliar education system is hard; if you’re struggling with language barrier, homesickness, stress, or loneliness you can get support through a variety of services.
AIBTGlobal wants to ensure all students who are studying with us feel supported during their stay in Australia. We offer support for under 18s, as well as 24/7 student support and assistance, IT support and Student Counselling.
