About this course

CHC33015 – Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability) reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

CHC52015 – Diploma of Community Services reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in the managing, co-ordinating and/or delivering of person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities. At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously under broad directions from senior management. Workers are usually providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals. Workers may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers and/or case management; program coordination or the development of new business opportunities.

To achieve the qualifications within this package, students must have completed at least 220 hours of unpaid work (vocational placement) as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Pre-Enrolment Information

Prior to enrolment, it is mandatory that students attend a Pre-Enrolment Consultation with one of our approved Education Agents or delegated AIBT staff.

A Pre-Enrolment Consultation session may be provided to a prospective student one or more times to provide the prospective student additional time and/or information to make an informed decision. In addition, the communication channels used for conducting Pre-Enrolment Consultation sessions can be in various forms such as Face-To-Face, Video Conference, telephone call, and email.

Students will be provided with clear and accurate information about their course before enrolment to allow students to make an informed decision.

During this Pre-Enrolment Consultation session, prospective students will be provided with all the relevant course information to help guide them to make a formal decision that will reflect their existing skills and competencies and meet their needs. International students will be provided with a Pre-Enrolment Consultation Checklist and Handout to ensure they understand the support services provided and their obligations as an international student.

These qualifications will be provided by face-to-face training session at the college, vocational placement at the vocational facility, and online live webinar training via a web-hosted online training service (e.g., Microsoft Teams, GoToMeeting). However, in any special circumstances, the mode of delivery can be adjusted reasonably and fair to the client cohorts.

Student visa holders are required to attend a minimum of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week.

Assessment:

The assessment of each unit of competency will take place during the course. Assessments will take the form of theory assessment / activities, assignment and / or simulated activities in a nursing lab. Students may be required to finalise some practical activities away from the classroom. methods form part of this course including written assignments, presentations, portfolios of work, role plays and projects. Supplementary evidence will be gathered if required from the course workbook.

  • Formative Assessment- Learner Activities (Including written questions, role plays)
  • Summative Assessment- Skills, Knowledge & Performance Activities (Observation activities in simulated environment, presentations, written questions)
  • Workplace assessment tasks required to be completed during 220 hours of work placement and covered in log book

This qualification must be delivered as per the packaging rules, even if a core unit/named elective has been superseded, until such time as the qualification has been updated and this update is reflected on the National Register, training.gov.au, and is listed on the RTO’s Scope of Registration.

There are many situations where it is considered beneficial for the student to receive the updated training that reflects the current skill needs of the relevant industry so a provider may choose to deliver the updated unit, issue a statement of attainment for those unit/s and then provide credit transfer – by mapping backwards – to the units named within the qualification.

  • The VET units need to be deemed ‘equivalent’ for credit transfer to be assigned
  • If the units are ‘not equivalent’ the provider will map the units to identify equivalence in content and learning outcomes (from the updated unit back to the superseded unit)
  • If this is not possible, the provider may need to match the content, but then undertake an RPL process to ascertain competence against each unit of competency.·
  • This would only need to do this once, then can be used for future decisions in the same circumstances.

If this still does not ascertain a ‘competent’ result, the student may need to undertake gap training against the destination qualification.


Entry Requirements

Academic requirement:
Overseas and domestic (normal study)
Successful completion of Australian Year 10 or equivalent.
Domestic RPL candidates:
Prior to commencing the RPL process, domestic RPL candidates are required to have relevant work experiences and/or any other evidence to match with the training package requirements.
English requirement:

A minimum of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent is required.

International Students who do not meet the English language requirements for this course may undertake English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) according to the English Learning Matrix.

All students except domestic RPL candidates are required to undertake an LLN test prior to the commencement of their course. LLN tests are designed by the college. The tests are categorised based on the students’ qualifications. They will be used as a tool to assist college personnel in identifying students who may require support in language and/or numeracy. LLN Tests are designed in accordance with the Australian Core Skills Framework as a guideline.

OSHC FEE

International students must have adequate health insurance while in Australia.

Vocational Placement

Vocational placement is an essential component of the qualifications within this package. Vocational placement consolidates the students’ knowledge within the real health environment, applying theory to practice.

Students will be required to undertake 220 hours of unpaid vocational placement.

220 vocational placement hours must include:

  • 120 hours of vocational placement for Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability) +
  • 100 hours of vocational placement for Diploma of Community Services

AIBT organises student placement. Students will be required to complete given logbook and workplace diary during their placement hours.

All students must be willing to undertake placement in a health care or community care facility and/or within a simulated lab environment during the program. Students are required to organise their own travel to and from these facilities and may be required to undertake placement in regional areas.

Before commencing vocational placement:

HLTAID003 – Provide first aid is not a unit of competency of the qualifications within this package, however if a student is required to complete this unit prior to attending placement in a particular health care or community care facility, AIBT will provide training of this unit at no additional cost to students and on completion will issue students with a Statement of Attainment prior to placement.

Students must meet the following mandatory requirements at their own expense. Students will be notified via email on when to obtain these documents:

  • As per placement facility requirements, it is mandatory for students to have up to date immunisation records, including COVID-19 vaccinations and Influenza vaccinations. There may be additional immunisation records required depending on the placement facilities’ policies
  • Have current competency in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – this must be updated annually and is included in the program
  • Provide an Australian Federal Police Certificate indicating that the student has passed the Australian Federal Police (National) Check.  https://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/services/criminal-records/national-police-checks
  • Completed manual handling as part of unit HLTWHS002 – Follow safe work practices for direct client care
  • *Medical Clearance: Have no medical or physical injury/condition that would prevent them from working safely and/or injuring themselves and/or residents whilst working within a health care or community care facility whilst assisting residents with day to day physical activities/tasks

Qualification Issued

Once the units of competency required in the training package for this qualification have been successfully completed, the student will be issued with a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability) (CHC33015) and Diploma of Community Services (CHC52015) and an academic transcript of all completed units within 30 calendar days. Students who successfully complete individual units of competency within the qualification, but not the qualification in its entirety will be eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment. This document contains a record of all completed units and will be available to students by the end of their course.

AIBT does not guarantee that:

  • a successful education assessment outcome for the student or intending student; or
  • completion of an AIBT qualification will lead to an employment outcome; or
  • a learner will successfully complete a training product on its scope of registration; or
  • a training product can be completed in a manner which does not meet the requirements of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.
