This qualification provides competencies to design and validate/evaluate electrical equipment and systems, manage risk, estimate and manage projects and provide technical advice/sales.

It develops competencies in the ethical and responsible application of mathematics, science, engineering techniques, Standards and Codes of Practice, engineering design practices, supervision and management of physical, human and financial resources in engineering.

Entry requirement:

Completion of UEE30811 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician or UEE40611 Certificate IV in Electrotechnology- Systems Electrician or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.

Academic requirement:

Successful completion of Australian year 12 or equivalent with satisfactory completion of mathematics and physics

English requirement:

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is required.

International Students who do not meet the English language requirements for this course may undertake English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) according to the English Learning Matrix.

Note: UEENEEG105A – Those holding an Unrestricted Electricians Licence or equivalent issued in an Australian State or Territory meet the requirements of this unit and its pre-requisite requirements.

 Queensland

To apply for an Electrical Work Licence/Permit (Other than Apprentice), OTSR holders wishing to work in Queensland must contact the Electrical Safety Office, who is the regulator responsible for issuing Queensland electrical licences.

Holders of an Electrical Work Licence/Permit (Other than Apprentice) must:

  • enrol in and complete Australian context gap training. The gap training must be undertaken with an approved Queensland RTO;
  • work under the supervision of a holder of a current and full electrician’s licence for a minimum period of twelve (12) months. Any work undertaken must be recorded in a worker’s log book, and;
  • complete a structured training program co-ordinated by a Queensland RTO.

On successful completion of the Australian context gap training and supervised employment, applicants are eligible to apply for a Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineer.

On receipt of the Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineer, an applicant may then apply for a full electrical licence.

 New South Wales

To apply for a Provisional Tradesperson Certificate, OTSR holders wishing to work in New South Wales (NSW) must contact New South Wales Fair Trading, who is the regulator responsible for issuing NSW electrical licences.

Holders of a Provisional Tradesperson Certificate must:

  • enrol in and complete Australian context gap training, and;
  • work under the supervision of a holder of a current and full electrician’s licence or qualified supervisor’s certificate for a minimum period of twelve (12) months.

On successful completion of the Australian context gap training and supervised employment, applicants are eligible to apply for a Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineer.

On receipt of the Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineer and obtaining a Certificate of Proficiency through the NSW Vocational Training Review Panel, an applicant may then apply for a full electrical licence.

Simulated Work Environment

AIBT provides 460 hours per year of simulated training within our Edison Engineering workshops and Engineering Rooms.

Simulated training is not equivalent to vocational placement.

Completing all the units of competency within this qualification will lead to the issuance of a Advanced Diploma of Electrical – Engineering (UEE62211) and a transcript of academic record. Students that successfully complete individual units of competency, but not the whole qualification, will be eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment detailing the completed units.
