This qualification reflects the role of a dental prosthetist who works as independent practitioners in the assessment, treatment, management of a person who requires provision of removable dentures; and who also provides unique flexible removable mouthguards used for sporting activities.

PLEASE NOTE:

To achieve this qualification, students must have completed at least of 240 hours of unpaid dental prosthetist clinical practice work (Clinical Placement) as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

This Program is not accredited with the Australian Dental Council (ADC) or approved by Dental Board of Australia (DBA) and is currently only accredited with the Australian Skill Quality Authority (ASQA).

A graduate holding an Advanced Diploma of Dental Prosthetics approved by the Dental Board of Australia is able to apply for registration with the Dental Board of Australia. Further information on registration is available at www.dentalboard.gov.au

Entry requirement:
To gain entry into HLT65015 a candidate must hold: 
1. HLT55115 – Diploma of Dental Technology or
2. HLT55118 – Diploma of Dental Technology
Academic requirement:
Academic requirement of a minimum completion of Year 12 or Australian equivalent is mandatory
English requirement:
A minimum of IELTS 7 or equivalent is required.
International Students who do not meet the English language requirements for this course may undertake English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) according to the English Learning Matrix.

Clinical placement is an essential component of this qualification. Clinical placement consolidates the students’ knowledge within the real health environment, applying theory to practice.

Students will be required to undertake 240 hours of unpaid clinical placement.

AIBT-I assists the students in organising clinical placement. Students will be required to complete given logbook and workplace diary during their placement hours.

All students must be willing to undertake clinical placement in a health care facility during the program. Students are required to organise their own travel to and from these facilities and may be required to undertake placement in regional areas.

Prior to attending clinical placement, students must demonstrate satisfactory course progression.

Before commencing clinical placement, students must meet the following mandatory requirements at their own expense. Students will be notified via email on when to obtain these documents:

  • Have a current Australian First Aid Certificate
  • Have current competency in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – this must be updated annually and is included in the program
  • At their own expense, 30 days before placement, provide an Australian Federal Police Certificate indicating that the student has passed the Australian Federal Police (National) Check.

Completing all the units of competency within this qualification will lead to the issuance of a Advanced Diploma of Dental Prosthetics (HLT65015) including a transcript of all completed units. Students that successfully complete individual units of competency, but not the whole qualification, will be eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment detailing the completed units.

PLEASE NOTE:

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least of 240 hours of dental prosthetist clinical practice work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Successful completion of this course will also give the skills needed to undertake further study in the field of dental prosthetics.
